Students will make a minute presentation to the class on an individual or family
developmental issue with a focus on one cultural population. The first week of class, eachstudent will e-mail their professor with their requested topic and week for presenting. Inorder to secure a week students will need to include: 1). The week they want to present,2). The culture, 3). The developmental issue. The week selected should match the topicsuggested. In other words, if a student wants to look at grief among Buddhists, theyshould select the week on death and dying. Additional examples include, but are notlimited to adoption, incest, divorce, or the onset of menopause. In terms of culturalpopulation, the group can present on the selected topic as it is experienced within anethnic group, gender, religious community, LGBTQIA community, racial groups,socioeconomic status group, or for persons with a particular category of disability.The presentation should be based on at least two peer-reviewed journal articles that werepublished in the last 10 years. Presentations should include intragroup variations; in otherwords, be careful not to overgeneralize or gloss over intragroup diversity. Presentationswill also include two different developmental theories being applied to both thedevelopmental issue and culture. A PowerPoint or something similar is required andshould be posted to the course wall prior to your presentation. Grading for thepresentation will be based on both content of information provided as well as ability toengage the attention of the class.
