The parent states, “Shawn has been having flu-like symptoms for the past week. He had a fever last week, but not this week. I am so concerned; he seems to be getting worse. He has been very lethargic, sleeping nearly all day except for getting up to use the bathroom and get something to drink or eat in the kitchen. He has been eating so much but has been losing weight this past week. He’s lost 5 pounds over the past week. There have been a couple of times in the past few days that he was not able to make it to the bathroom. I also had to change his bed sheets this morning because they smelled of urine.” The client appears lethargic but responds to questions. Initial vital signs on admission are temperature, 37.2˚C (98.9˚F); heart rate, 110/min; respirations, 21/min; blood pressure, 90/68 mm Hg; and oxygen saturation, 99% on room air.
