Ben is a 15-year-old seen in the clinic because of acne. You note that his face and neck are covered with comedones and inflamed pustules. He states that he has had a problem with acne for two years but has taken care of it at home by scrubbing his face 4-5 times per day and using Oxy 5. He states that he squeezes the pimples when he can to keep them open. Ben had been dating a 14-year old girl but broke up with her about one month ago and lately he has been having trouble with a teacher and getting poor grades in science. Since then his face has gotten worse. He eats lots of foods, he particularly likes nachos. He doesn’t eat chocolate because his Grandma told him it causes acne. The physician has ordered Tetracycline and Acutane po. Ben and his mom are not familiar with these medications.
