Renee Workman is a 35-year-old, G2PO African American client who is at 37 weeks gestation. This pregnancy was conceived by in-vitro fertilization. Renee denies a history of any chronic medical conditions. The pregnancy has been unremarkable until 1 week ago when Renee’s blood pressure was noted to be elevated at a scheduled office visit. A return visit, several days later, confirmed persistent hypertension. There was a mild increase in the liver function lab results noted. The fetal nonstress test was a category 1 and the client was sent home with activity restrictions and daily monitoring of fetal movements. Today Renee was seen in the office with a weight gain of 2 kg (4 lb) in one week. The clients reports that the fetus is not “as active as usual.” Blood pressure was 158/98 mm Hg and 162/96 mm Hg. The patient was referred to the facility for additional evaluation. The client completed a 24 hour urine collection for protein but the results are not available yet. Renee arrived on the unit about 10 minutes ago. The electronic fetal monitor was applied. Vital signs on admission were temperature 36.5° C (97.7° F), pulse 82/min, respiratory rate 18/min, blood pressure 162/100 mm
