Letter to Editor Every day there are articles in the news about early child development (for example, a recent front-page article on the fetal origins of adult disease). Often the press reports can be based on peer-reviewed journal articles, but then they are written in such a way as to grab the reader’s attention and misrepresent the true findings. This assignment is designed to help you read into information presented in population press and examine the original evidence-based to evaluate its trustworthiness. This assignment asks you to identify two popular press reports in the print/online media that relates in some way to child development and early learning, verify the credibility of the press reports by researching background information yourself and write a letter for each report to the editor to discuss the news from an evidence-based position. You may agree or disagree with the press reports, but you will need provide evidence to support your perspective in the letter. The deliverables of this assignment would include two letters to the editor and two supporting documents of research evidence (one for each press report). Each letter to the editor should include the following components: • No more than 300 words. • Include the primary focus of the press report. • Include your purpose of writing this letter. • Include your perspective(s), supported by research evidence. Each supporting document of research evidence should include the following components: • 3 scholarly sources such as journal articles, book chapters, technical reports • An APA citation of each scholarly source. • A summary of each scholarly source. • How does each scholarly source support your perspective(s)?
