Not many of us associate Rum as the drink that led to the American Revolution. For the most part, when we think of a beverage associated with the American Revolution it is usually tea. 
For this assignment, you will have to do some research into Rum and discuss how it impacted the tension between the colonists and the British that ultimately led to the American Revolution. 
Make sure you read the material located in the True Spirit of the American Revolution module. In addition, make sure you cite any online source you use to answer the questions. 
QUESTIONS
Where did Rum originate? What importance did it initially have once it started to grow in popularity? 
When did Rum first arrive in the 13 colonies? How did it impact colonial society and economy? 

There were two acts that the British passed to restrict/tax the popular beverage: the Molasses Act and the Sugar Act. What role did these acts play in creating tension between the colonists and the British? 
If your favorite beverage was being taxed or restricted what would be your immediate response? Would you continue to purchase it, start a protest movement, or switch to another beverage? Explain.
