My topic will be on mental health and the purpose of this speech will be to promote an understanding of mental health issues, reduce stigma, and encouraging support for those living with mental health issues.
The goals of an informative speech include:
Build an audience’s understanding and awareness by imparting knowledge.
Provide listeners with new information, new ideas, or new ways of thinking about a topic.

Use the techniques you have learned for brainstorming to choose a topic that you are passionate about and want to cover in your informative speech. It is a good idea to choose a topic that you are familiar with and comfortable in presenting. You may present a speech explaining an object, a process, an event, or a concept. Your textbook offers many suggestions and ideas. Be creative!
Be sure that your topic is appropriate for your audience (academic setting) and the time frame you are allotted for your speech (5–7 minutes).

In your proposal, provide the following:
A summary of your topic and your level of familiarity with it
A general purpose statement (the goal of the speech)
A specific purpose statement (your topic/thesis)
