CREATING A MIND MAP

    May 5, 2024

To prepare:
In writing your dissertation, there are two documents you will write to guide your work. The first is a Premise document that justifies your selection of a dissertation topic and begins to explore a gap in current research. The second is the Prospectus that serves as a detailed roadmap for the dissertation. The Premise will help leadership identify a strong mentor/chair for your dissertation committee. With your mentor/chair, you will further develop your Prospectus before beginning the dissertation.
In Module 1, you wrote one paragraph justifying the selection of your dissertation topic using information from specialists in your field. In Module 2, you will begin to read abstracts from current research studies to find out what is already known about your topic, so that you are able to identify a gap or need in current research and gain a broader understanding of your topic.
Find a minimum of five current research studies that are relevant to the topic of your dissertation that have been published in the last 3 years. Read each of the abstracts and keyword lists only from these five research studies. Use the Master Keyword List included in your references for this module and write all the relevant keywords you find on it. See how the keywords go together to create broader topics.
Using the keywords you identified, along with any suggestions you received from the class discussion, create a mind map of your dissertation topic. Write one paragraph explaining what you learned about your topic during the development of this mind map using key concepts and keywords. Refer to the Assignment Rubric for Creating a Mind Map as a guide for developing your mind map.
