Student Discussion That Needs to Be Responded to:
Families who have children with very low birth weights go through long-term difficulties. The arrival of a baby with a very low birth weight (less than 1500 g) can be a challenging time for families, particularly when the baby is born extremely prematurely, experiences medical complications, and requires extended hospital stays. Mothers and fathers of these babies often report experiencing more symptoms of depression and stress related to caring for their child than parents of full-term babies. The early bond between the baby and their caretaker may also be negatively impacted (Taylor et al.,2021). LBW babies are at the potential risk of cognitive deficits, motor delays, cerebral palsy, and other behavior and psychological problem. Babies born weighing too little may be more likely than others to have certain health conditions later in life, including Diabetes, Heart disease, High blood pressure, Intellectual and developmental disabilities, Metabolic syndrome, and Obesity.
Across the United States, Blacks are more prone to poor birth outcomes. Compared to White babies, Black babies are twice as likely to have low birth weight. Segregated communities of color are often excluded from investments that enhance good schools, affordable housing, and other opportunities for health, leading to deteriorated health outcomes and higher rates of child poverty, infant mortality, and high school dropouts. The report has found that American Indian or Alaskan Native, Black, or Hispanic children often face twice the child poverty rates that White children experience (Newman, K. 2018)
The Babies Can’t Wait (BCW) program in Georgia provides coordinated services for infants and toddlers with special needs and their families. This program supports and assists families and caregivers in enhancing children’s learning and development through everyday learning opportunities. BCW is an early intervention program available from birth to three years of age and focuses on providing resources and support to help improve children’s outcomes. They identify and screen children with developmental delays and chronic health conditions early, enhance development in infants and toddlers with health conditions, and Support children’s learning and development through everyday opportunities. Hi Nita,
I like how you discuss both the teacher observing the student and the student observing their own art. You bring up excellent points about the teachers observing the children, because it does help the teacher to better communicate with the children and understand them better. As teachers, it is very important to nurture students, particularly if they are very young, I think, because it allows them to better understand the needs of the student, and how to work with them. Paying attention to what the student is drawing, and seeing how the student reacts to their own work can improve the teachers’ understanding.
Expressing feelings in this discussion board reply examples is a major component of growing up. The more a student is able to express those feelings, the more they can understand them. I liked reading about what you said on this topic, and I agree that the art is a very useful tool that students can learn to express their feelings effectively. If they do not express them, they are keeping them inside, and drawing can become a form of counseling for them. In my opinion, I think the drawing can be particularly useful for many students who are quiet. These students do not often express themselves verbally, and drawing can be a way for them to understand their feelings, and to release some pent up sadness of hostile feelings, for example. I think this form of therapy sticks with many people throughout life, and they continue to use drawing as a coping mechanism.
