The purpose of this assignment is for students to identify a current social welfare policy that needs to be improved or modified in order to adequately address a policy problem.
In this paper, students will:
1. Identify a specific federal, state or local social welfare policy by name and articulate why it is not working as well as it could be. E.g. What is the problem?
2. Use evidence to support their assessment and draw in elements from the policy analysis framework used in to identify specific areas where policy change is needed to reduce or eliminate the problem. Cite relevant articles and gray literature as needed (“as needed,” meaning that if it is not your original idea or if you are providing factual information). You need to cite at least 5 references.
3. Conclude by indicating what a next step would be to improve the policy and/or address the policy problem in an innovative way.
