A 23-year-old female presents to an urgent care center complaining of a runny nose and a sore throat. She explains that she was treated with amoxicillin by her primary care physician about 2 weeks ago without any relief. She denies fever or chills and states that her symptoms are worst in the morning upon waking. She mentions that she just moved to this state within the last month and is living in an apartment. On physical examination, the pertinent positives include clear bilateral nasal discharge with pale, boggy nasal mucosa. Along with that, she has dark circles under her eyes and her pharynx shows cobble-stoning. Her vital signs are normal. The patient is requesting a stronger antibiotic to help get rid of her symptoms.
