Brad, a 32-year-old man, was cooking methamphetamine in his kitchen when the substance caught fire. The entire house was engulfed in flames by the time the fire department arrived. A neighbor called 911 after smelling smoke. Firefighters found Brad unconscious and rescued him. He was stabilized at the scene and taken to STC Emergency Department by ambulance. During transport, paramedics administered oxygen and started an IV access. Upon arrival at the ED, Brad was found to have severe burns on his torso, left arm, and neck. He was at risk for smoke inhalation and had a compromised airway, so oxygen and fluid resuscitation were initiated.
