Midterm Project
Objective: Demonstrate competency in using data to tell a story and describe the
distributions of variables
Instructions: Chose three to five variables from the 2018 GSS data provided in your
course shell to use for this project. Be able to tell why these variables relate in some
way to each other. For example, you could use the confidence in different types of
government to gauge how the typical American felt about government in 2018
(conarmy, concong, concourt, or confed). You could include some demographic
characteristics (age, race, gender, or class) to see if subpopulations differ in their
confidence about government. After choosing your variables create a sort text box
explaining why you chose these variables.
The following items are required on your project:
➢ Title,
➢ Header with your name, date, and the course,
➢ A text box explaining your variable selection,
➢ A table reporting the variable names, what they measure and their level of
measurement,
➢ The appropriate graph which describes the frequency distribution for each
variable,
➢ A test box which summarized the information reported in the graphs for
frequency distributions,
➢ A table reporting each measure of central tendency for your selected variables
(be sure to report all the measures that are valid for each variable),
➢ A text box using words to summarize the measures of central tendency),
➢ A table reporting the dispersion if you have any variables measured at the ordinal
or interval ratio level,
➢ A chart with box charts if appropriate,
➢ A text box interpreting the dispersion in your variables,
➢ A textbox making summary comments.
