In Dr. Kevin Hall’s lecture, you were introduced to trends underlying our body’s drive for energy balance. Much discussion has centered around the effects of exercise, prolonged sitting, and cumulative sedentary behavior; and between low-carb, low-fat diets, fasting and timing of food intake, and food processing on a healthy diet. For this discussion, choose one of the following prompts:
The opposite view. Imagine you were coaching up a group of participants in an amoral reality show with the exact opposite premise of NBC’s Biggest Loser (that carried morality questions of its own). In your post, present how you would ensure that people GAINED weight. Support your claims with theory and/or scientific evidence from topics covered in the lecture.
Explore a theme. Module 7 was a collection of topics surrounding metabolic health. In your post, summarize additional research on either metabolic adaptation/compensation, maintenance of caloric balance, caloric restriction, metabolic flexibility, fuel utilization, comparisons between dietary patterns, or exercise’s role in weight management.
