Kelly: Emotions have influenced motivation in my life in many ways. I remember times when my emotions were sad and hurt, and I made poor decisions since I felt that way. But there have been other times when my emotions were positive, leading to me being very motivated and achieving my goals.
In the episodes of Nicole Malakowski, I learned that her emotions when she was young helped and motivated her toward her dream-long goal of being a fighter pilot.
But her emotions turned when she decided to apply for the Thunderbird pilot. She was informed that there are no female pilots. Due to that, her negative emotions influenced her to retract the application for the Thunder Bird since she had feelings of doubt. With help and reassurance, she submitted the application. Her emotions turned into excitement when she got the call that she had made the final 5.
In high school, I was very determined and dedicated to my studies. I worked hard and did well throughout my four years in high school. I was in a relationship with someone. He got accepted to a University far from where I would be studying. Being only 17 years old, my emotions were everywhere, and I did not regulate them well. I was sad and angry, and instead of being happy and proud of him, I was the opposite. Unfortunately, that led to a breakup, and I lost the motivation to attend college. My emotions interfered with my goals of attending college and my relationship at the time.
I learned with time to properly regulate those emotions. It took me a year and a half to learn how. I did therapy, so I had help from someone to regulate my emotions, and I also started working out consistently. The gym is my happy place to release stress or negative feelings. It helps me to regulate all the emotions I have for the day. I also met someone new, and we started our life together. We have three children. I decided now in 2023 to attend and graduate college with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Hilda: Many people can relate to the fact that emotions can greatly affect motivation. I, personally, experienced this when it came to my education. At first, my fear held me back from enrolling in school, and I kept putting it off. However, something I heard made me realize how crucial it was, and this emotional response motivated me to finally enroll at West Coast University. While I don’t usually allow myself to be easily influenced, my emotions played a significant role in this particular situation. Although I have faced challenging moments that made me feel demotivated and tempted to give up, I remind myself of the reasons why I started to keep my motivation levels up. Despite the impact of my emotions, I strive to stay focused on my goals and push through any difficulties.
