ENG 329 Module Two Mock Workshop Guidelines and Rubric
July 31, 2023
Overview: For this assignment, you will participate in a Mock Workshop in the discussion board forum, the goal of which is to practice how you would provide
positive feedback to your actual peers when you come to review their story drafts in the workshops that take place in Module Three and Module Five. As such,
you will offer advice to the writer of “Brazen” on how to make her story stronger while being respectful and positive. Be sure to follow the guidelines outlined in
the document How to Effectively Workshop for tips on reviewing work and providing feedback.
Prompt: First read “Brazen” by Elaine Hopper. Write down your observations in the margins of the text (or on a separate piece of paper) as you read the story.
When you have finished, answer the following questions in your initial response in paragraph form:
ď‚· What does the author do particularly well? Highlight particularly effective passages or lines that really caught your interest.
ď‚· What areas of the text could use more revision, and what are some suggestions you have to strengthen these areas?
ď‚· What unanswered questions do you have after reading the text?
When you have finished with your initial post, provide feedback to at least two peers and engage them in conversation about the story. Do you agree with the
feedback they provided to the author of the story, or do you have a different opinion?
Guidelines for Submission: You will write an initial post, 1 to 2 paragraphs, to the Module Two Mock Workshop discussion forum and reply to at least two posts
during the week outside of your initial post thread. This discussion should not be viewed as a short paper. These discussions offer you the opportunity to express
your own thoughts about the short story you have read, ask questions for clarification, and gain insight from your classmates’ responses and instructor’s
guidance. A response needs to be respectful and substantive, indicating a response with depth beyond “I agree” or “I disagree.”
Requirements for Discussion Board Assignments:
Students are required to post one initial post and to follow up with at least two response posts for each discussion board assignment.
For your initial post (1) you must:
ď‚· Compose a post of one to two paragraphs.
ď‚· Complete the initial post by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time
zone of the module week.
ď‚· Take into consideration material such as course content and other
discussion boards from the current module and previous modules, when
appropriate.
For your response posts (2) you must:
ď‚· Reply to at least two different classmates outside of your own initial
post thread.
ď‚· Complete the two response posts by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. of your local
time zone.
 Demonstrate more depth and thought than simply stating “I agree” or
“You are wrong.” Guidance is provided for you in each discussion prompt
