By now, you’re hopefully feeling more comfortable with the idea of analyzing a music video, and you’ve chosen the one you’d like to work with in your paper.
The next step is to decide on a thesis statement for the essay. 
This thesis statement should declare the overall theme or message you think the video communicates.
In this type of paper, it’s a good idea to write the thesis statement in advance, since it serves as a guide to what you’ll focus on as you begin writing. 
Another good idea when writing an academic essay is to create a plan for the paper before you begin writing.
For this assignment, you’ll be writing a traditional type of academic essay known as a five-paragraph essay.  This type of essay has at least five paragraphs (though it can have more) and includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Most of you have probably already learned to write a five-paragraph essay in school.  To refresh your memory, you might watch this video on how to write a five-paragraph essay.
This week, I’d like you to create and post an outline for a five-paragraph analysis essay on your chosen video.  Your outline should include your thesis statement and a list of topics you’ll cover in your essay.
Here is a sample of an outline for an analysis paper.  There is also a section on outline-making in this unit’s online textbook chapter.
Once you post your outline, make sure to respond to the outlines of TWO of your peers.  Choose someone who has not yet received class feedback, please!
When responding to a peer, please comment on his/her thesis statement.  Does the thesis make a specific claim?  Does it encompass the planned paper’s entire main idea?  Does it seem to be well-supported by the details listed in the rest of the outline?
