We are currently in a pandemic, Covid, in particular. The Covid virus has been so detrimental that many lost their lives and living quarters. The impact of the disease also caused inflation. We witnessed inflation in food, gas, rent, transportation, and everyday living needs and wants.

In many areas of the United States where inflation occurred, we saw prices rise but not pay. The demand for funding did not match the supply (which was the necessities of life), which caused many American to struggle and continue to struggle. No matter what, there is no reason to break the Law.

You are a correction officer working in the County Jail. During this time, there were no raises in pay, and the funds you are making can only pay some of your bills in partial/ full or not pay them at all. One of your co-workers has approached you and said they have a plan to make extra money. They even shared with you the plan and twelve others who had brought into the plan to bring drugs into the county jail. The results of what they were doing were enticing because they did not get caught and were making money. It was also shared with you that only a few could be trusted, and you were one of them. Now they have you thinking. The struggle is real! You know that; we know that.

 Those who had bought into the process were not going through the struggle like you and others. Another co-worker approached you and reassured you that this was safe and had great benefits. The benefit was that you could take care of your family, the money was tax-free, no one would know, and you would gain respect from the inmates like “Po-Boy”, a convicted murderer and gang member. Enticing right? Now you know what some of your co-workers (Correction Officer), including one of the jail nurses, were doing; it started to appear clear that they had a good plan. The money sounds good, and it’s all smiles!! Ethically what would you have done and why? Please support your perspective with facts about your ethical decision and what ethics is.
