5. There are numerous ways to garner students’ attention and have them engage with new content and information. For example, students may enjoy visual pictures or charts/graphs that support other written materials. Or students may engage more fully in small group discussions or Socratic Seminars when they can audibly verbalize their thoughts. Sometimes students may like having tactile experiences that involve manipulating an object to learn a new concept. Consider a lesson activity that you have taught, been taught, or seen taught in a traditional method, and explain how you could revise the lesson to engage students using an innovative approach that incorporates literacy.
6. Discuss the importance of students understanding their own literacy progress or their movement from learning literacy to literacy to learn. Include opportunities you have seen or used for at-home remediation for students who may still be struggling.
