To start this week’s discussion forum, read Graff’s “Hidden Intellectualism” carefully, taking notes as you go. Using your reading of the Introduction, Chapter 1, and 2 of ” They Say/ I Say,” identify the conversation Graff is entering.

First, locate a quote from Michelle Alexander’s “The New Jim Crow” (298-311) that you believe incorporates one or more rhetorical appeals well. Using your reading from this week and the videos on citing/quoting, introduce the quote in MLA. Identify the rhetorical appeal(s) used in this quote. Then, explain why this quote helps you as an audience member to understand the writer’s motivation. Why is the quote effective or ineffective? Your response must be at least 300 words.
