Vital signs on arrival were temperature 34.1˚ C (93.4˚ F), pulse 72/min, respirations 18/min, BP 96/54 mm Hg, oxygen saturation is 96% on room air. On assessment, the child was shivering uncontrollably, and their lips were cyanotic. The child is very thin. Lungs are clear, heart rhythm is regular, and there are no visible indications of maltreatment. The child will not make eye contact with the healthcare team, will not respond to questions, and withdraws when approached. The child is being admitted to the pediatric unit for observation and is currently being warmed with blankets. The police are trying to locate the parents, and a hospital sitter is at the bedside.
