Black History Month
February is Black History Month and I have created an assignment which should be informative and fun. Below is a list of important African Americans who made important contributions during the period of history covered by this course.
Choose THREE names from the list.
Using your book, the internet, and/or the library, review the important events surrounding their lives.
Based on your information pretend that you have been scheduled to meet each person.
Think about what you would want to say to them and what you would like to ask them.
Type your comments and questions in the discussion board.
Be extra careful to make sure the writing is your own and that you do not cut and paste information directly from the internet. You can include information of course, but make this your own as if you were really having a conversation.
In other words, if you were to meet the three people you selected, what would you say to them? What would ask them? What would you want to talk about? Please list each name separately.
Let’s be honest, if you had a chance to meet an important and famous person, wouldn’t you want to know more about them before you sat down for lunch or a cup of coffee? Pretend these people have come back to life just to meet you. Show them the respect they deserve. Let them know what you think and ask meaningful questions.

Your grade will be based on how thoughtfully you respond. If you pretend this is really happening, you will do a great job. Put in the time. I would also like to see you respond to at least three or more of your classmates. Do you have additional questions or comments to add to your classmates?
There is no word count but at least two well-constructed paragraphs are expected. Show me that you took this seriously and that you made a serious effort. By the way, many history teachers do this in their own minds. There are so many historical figures I would love to meet, and I have a long list of questions that I would ask them.
Here is the list
Frederick Douglass
Harriet Tubman
Sojourner Truth

Richard Allen
Jean Baptiste Point du Sable
James Forten
Benjamin Banneker
Harriet Jacobs
Denmark Vesey
Harriet Wilson
Phillis Wheatley
Nat Turner
Frances Harper
Jupiter Hammon
James Derham
Absalom Jones
Octavius Catto
