In the Discussion, you analyzed to what extent and in what ways the dissertation topic you are interested in studying fits the expectations of academic researchers and the requirements for a Walden dissertation using the four criteria of the Litmus Test. You considered the strengths and weaknesses of your topic, as well as its justification, grounding in literature, originality, and amenability to scientific study.
In this Assignment, you will review the requirements for the first phase of the development of your dissertation. You will develop one part of the Premise document that indicates the topic you wish to study and why you believe that topic is appropriate and justified based on Walden and academic expectations. This is presented for you in The Dissertation Premise Guide and modeled in the Premise Template.
You will begin the premise development process by identifying three articles that justify your pursuit of that dissertation topic. You will take notes on each article using the Literature Review Matrix for future use. The point is for you to demonstrate that other scholars and professionals believe that the topic you want to research is worthy of being researched. You can use professional articles about your topic or research studies for this Assignment.To prepare:
Review the Dissertation Premise Guide in this module’s Learning Resources. Your Premise is the major assignment you will submit during this course, and it is the document that will be used by your Specialization Coordinator to provide you with the best mentor available to help you develop your dissertation. In particular, note the emphasis placed on the identification and justification of both a broad educational-social problem and of a gap in researched knowledge about some aspect of that problem. For this module, you will address the justification of your educational-social problem. In Modules 2 and 3, you will address the gap in researched knowledge about your problem.
In Module 1, identify the broader educational-social problem that you want to research for your dissertation. Identify three articles that demonstrate your educational problem is a problem in your specialization area by reviewing abstracts of those articles and skimming the articles themselves. You will refine and expand this in Module 4. Be sure to refer to the Assignment 1 Rubric for this assignment to see how your work will be assessed.
BY DAY 7 OF WEEK 2:
Write one paragraph justifying the broader educational-social problem you want to research, showing that it is meaningful to your specialization area. In the first sentence, state the broader educational-social problem. Then, develop your paragraph with a minimum of one sentence from each of three articles showing what experts in your field have said about the need for research on your topic. Write a summary sentence for your paragraph synthesizing the point you made and telling why you believe this problem needs to be resolved.
