M1: LESSON 2 – Topics for Essay 1 and Preparing to Write

The first step in writing any college paper is getting a clear understanding of what the assignment calls for, what your professor expects, and what topics you will choose from. Begin this lesson by familiarizing yourself with the guidelines and topics for the literary analysis essay that you will submit at the end of this unit. See attached files for guidelines and topics.

READ the guidelines and topics for the literary analysis essay you will submit at the end of this module (in lesson 3) here:

1. Now that you have looked at the guidelines and become familiar with the choices available to you, learn some more about writing the literary analysis by reading the following section of the e-book, Bloom’s How to Write about Toni Morrisson:

  • Go to the following link from the MDC Library Databases“Bloom’s How to Write about Toni MorrisonLinks to an external site..” 
  • Find the chapter heading “How to Write a Good Essay.”
  • Scroll down to the section titled “Thesis Statements” and continue reading until but not including the section titled “Citations and Formatting.”
