Imagine you are a police chief or elected sheriff. You need to balance what the community desires in terms of dealing with problematic traffic matters (see Concept Resource to learn more) and the perception that traffic stops are conducted in opposition to positive community relations and further biased-practices in the criminal justice system. As the chief/sheriff, develop a list of five “rules” (essentially policies and procedures) the officers in your department must follow with respect to traffic stops. These rules must balance the need to address problematic traffic issues and positive community relations. For each rule, you must explain why and how the rule will balance these issues.
