SOC 330 Final Project Issue Selection Guidelines and Rubric
August 11, 2023
Overview: Milestone One is due in Module Three, and completing this assignment will give you a head start. You will select your issue for the final project and
begin to consider research sources.
Optional: Before selecting the issue you will focus on in your final project, you may find it helpful to determine if you will easily be able to research the issue. For
example, use the Shapiro Library resource to identify a related journal and search within the journal for your issue.
Prompt: In this short assignment, you will do the following:
- Select the issue you will focus on for the final project. You may consider the list of issues provided in the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document,
issues described in the first discussion, or an idea you generated from your work in the course to date. - Briefly explain, in two to three sentences, why you selected this issue. For example, describe how it is of interest to you personally or professionally.
- List questions you will strive to examine as a part of the research process. For example, if the issue were banning smoking in public housing, you could
ask questions like the following:
o How have housing policies developed over time, and what sorts of historic events have shaped these policies?
o How have minority residents reacted to similar policies?
o What are minority perceptions of power when these types of policies are implemented?
You may be asked to revise or replace your issue, based on feedback from your instructor. You may submit as many issues as needed until you gain approval.
