Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” is a work that deals with the relationship of marriage in the late Nineteenth Century. Chopin, of course, was well ahead of her time in pinpointing the place of women and men in that relationship. In an essay of 1,000 words, discuss how the state of marriage or of relationships in our contemporary society has changed from Chopin’s time. You may wish to include in your discussion the present role of women and men in relationships, the benefits they derive from those relationships, the challenges they must overcome as well as their failures that lead to the high rate of divorce in our country. You may also discuss any other point that pertains to an in-depth discussion of personal relationships today and their differences from those portrayed in “The Story of an Hour.” 
Write a thoughtful, well-organized essay on the topic using a formal point of view which means that your writing is in the objective or third-person point of view without the use of the “I” pronoun.
Do not use the “you” pronoun (which one should always avoid especially in a formal paper).
Type your paper with the correct MLA heading on each page. Double space the heading as well as the rest of the essay.
Include several quotes from “The Story of an Hour” followed by the correct format for in-text citations. (You need to use in-text citations whenever you use direct quotes from the story but not when you are simply paraphrasing what the narrator says. In your in-text citation, since you are writing about one work and one author, you need only include the page number, not the name of the author.) You should not include quotes from any source other than “The Story of an Hour” because this essay requires no outside research other than your general knowledge of the subject and your familiarity with the Chopin short story. 
Include a work-cited page with the correct information and in the correct format. You will have, of course, only one source listed on this page.
Avoid the following grammar errors: fragments, fused or run-together sentences, comma splices, subject-verb agreement, capitalization, spelling and typos.
