Usability 
Within healthcare, time is always of the essence. Rush is a word known well, regardless of whether it is satisfying a doctor or saving a life. According to NIH, a study recorded by three pediatric clinics across the US showed that 1/3 of medication safety events happened due to EHR usability issues (NIH, 2019). Communication is also improved by usability, which equals more accessible documentation. More straightforward documentation on an already rushed mind can improve outcomes, allowing physicians to see progress more efficiently and nurses to see orders more quickly. Eliminating the fight against EHR and the documentation length will also enable nurses and physicians to spend more time with their patients, doing more hands-on care and listening to patient needs. According to AHRQ: “Poor design and usability can lead to errors that compromise patient safety and can disrupt provider workflow, contributing to increased cognitive burden. This can lead to provider burnout, resulting in the termination of the profession (AHRQ, n/d). As a nurse, usability is essential in providing efficient, timely patient care.
