2. Both Sun Tzu and Machiavelli wrote books entitled “The Art of War”. Describe some of the similarities and differences in their approach to military strategy.
3. Which of the four competing visions of Grand Strategy as described in the Posen and Ross article is most descriptive of today? Do you agree that we continue to have an “ad hoc” approach as they concluded in the mid 90’s? Is that a good or a bad thing? Why?

In Russell Weigley’s Chapter (15) in Makers of Modern Strategy, he describes the “American Way of War” as developed by our experience in the Revolutionary War, the “Indian Wars” and the US Civil War. He describes these as either wars of attrition or wars of annihilation. Which did Lincoln prefer? Why?
