Topic:  what are the causes and risks involved in adverse pregnancy cases? 
Prof comments: I am assuming that you are not talking about delivery but you might focus on one stage in particular. If not, you could structure your paper by using each trimester to discuss that risks and causes in that term. Alternatively, you could study one risk. I just searched pregnancy risk in Google Scholar and found over 16,000 articles published in the last four months. So some narrowing would be good.

Topic Proposal Assignment:
GOAL: This assignment asks you to solidify your research topic and propose the topic you want to investigate during the term. You must defend your choice with solid reasons about why it is a good topic for both an informative and argumentative essay. 
Because this is your second week of thinking about this topic, we expect that you will have a strong start at building working knowledge of your topic by now, and your answers should reflect your initial research.
REMEMBER: Your topic must sustain your interest throughout the entire class and be a good fit for the three different types of essays you will write.

Getting Started: 
1. What is your topic? It should be complex, debatable, narrow, academic in nature, and long-lasting. For example, issues such as “social media” are not specific enough. A more focused and acceptable topic would be “the impact of social media on teenage depression.” 
2. What problems are associated with this topic?  Who or what do the issues impact? Why is this topic important? This is the “so what” from our video series. Why tackle this issue now? Before you can discuss solutions, it is essential to establish that an issue actually is a problem that impacts many people or the world in a significant way. If it is something that only impacts a few people a year, is it really a problem? A weak choice may mean you will run out of steam on the topic before the quarter ends.  
3. What do you know about this topic? Build on your working knowledge to explain the conversations surrounding your topic and the various perspectives being represented. What are people saying about this issue?
